Vaccinations are important for preventing diseases in your pet. While not every vaccine is right for every dog, there are a few that are considered “core” because the disease they protect against may be highly contagious, possibly fatal, or transmissible to humans. Vaccines prevent the deaths of thousands of dogs every year.
Rabies and Distemper/AdenoVirus or Hepatitis/Parvo/Parainfluenza (DHPP or DAPP) are considered core vaccinations for dogs. Rabies and Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (FVRCP) are core for cats. There are also vaccines that are considered core for any dog that comes into contact with other dogs- the bordetella vaccine, and for dogs that come into contact with wildlife areas- the leptospirosis vaccine. For cats, the feline leukemia vaccine (FeLV) is recommended for any cat that goes outdoors. Other vaccines for dogs that are lifestyle based include Lyme, Flu, and Rattlesnake vaccines. Pets that travel to foreign countries may need additional vaccines.
At Fuzzy, we believe in lifestyle-based vaccinations. Our doctors provide only the vaccines that are needed for your pet's lifestyle and follow the guidelines recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and Leptospirosis vaccines are included in the membership for dogs. For cats, the Feline Leukemia, Rabies, and FVRCP are included. Other lifestyle based vaccines are available upon request. Some vaccinations are yearly, while others are only every 3 years. Our doctors will help you decide what is best for your pet, and then vaccinate them in the comfort of your home.
