Heartworm Medication

Heartworm medication is a topical or oral medication that you give to your pet year-round, typically on a monthly basis. These preventatives are designed to prevent and kill heartworm and other intestinal parasites that can cause a lot of health problems for dogs and cats.

Dogs can get heartworm disease from the bite of an infected mosquito. Heartworm disease is very easily prevented but the treatment itself is costly and can have fatal side effects. All dogs are at risk- not just those that go into the woods. Anywhere there is water, there are mosquitos. This includes seemingly innocuous sources of water, such as irrigated lawns and gardens, swimming pools, or birdbaths.

Intestinal parasites, like tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms, are common in young animals and pets with exposure to many other animals or wildlife. Just because you don't see worms in your pet's feces does NOT mean they don't have worms! Having a fecal sample checked is a great way to be sure that your pet is negative for intestinal parasites.

Fuzzy includes brand-name heartworm preventative medications, such as Tri-Heart Plus, based on your pet's lifestyle, mailed to you once monthly. Not sure which one is right for your pet? Our doctors will ask about your pet's lifestyle and help you decide what's right for your furry family.
