Vaccine boosters are of utmost importance in ensuring your pet is protected from the most common and potentially deadly infectious diseases that affect pets. The initial vaccine alone is rarely sufficient to protect your pet fully. When given for the first time, the vaccine introduces the immune system to the disease entities that we want our pets to be able to fight, without becoming sick from them. This protection only lasts a short time on its own and without a booster to remind the immune system to stay vigilant, the long-term protection will be minimal.
When a booster is given during the initial series or years later, it reminds your pet's immune system to keep watch and continue to protect your beloved pet. Your veterinarian will review your pet's vaccine history and make a vaccine booster schedule to follow each year.
